This is a deluxe 23″ electric fireplace insert from Dimplex, replacing an old gel fuel can insert. We had to build a box to set the insert inside, because the fireplace surround is open in the back and the back flame screen on the insert is only a couple inches deep. The log holder is about 10″ deep. The fireplace comes with a remote on/off control. The heat has two settings, but can only be controlled on the insert itself. The flame has only one setting. The flame is projected on a mirror, giving the illusion that it is coming up between the logs. The logs have LED lights, which create a pulsating effect. The ember bed has a rolling effect which makes the flames appear to dance across the surface. We added aa little volcanic rock from the old gel fuel fireplace for the front ash effect. Average cost is 0. The sound was added with a Kracklebox for . The sound is ok – there is so much crackle that it almost sounds like popcorn (but viewing videos of real fires shows that they do crackle a lot) and the speaker sound is kind of hollow. Paying close attention, I noticed it appears to be on a 15 second loop. It would be nice if they added more time to the soundtrack, since it is all digital. The Kracklebox has cords to attach to a sound system, which would allow a user to adjust the sound quality. I simply set the volume to medium and placed the box in an old, fleece-lined slipper behind the fireplace and that helped muffle the echo effect & sounds great. The volume … Video Rating: 0 / 5

This is another video of my Buck Stove Model 21 not too long after my Dad, brother, and I installed the stove. The Model 21 sure does put out the heat but I am learning that this summer I’ll have to cut my new wood a bit smaller and split much more.
Mom bought me this new fireplace insert to replace my old electric logs. It does a good job keeping my living room warm even with the furnace off. The flames look realistic and the logs glow from within and pulsate. You can select how bright or intense you want it to look. It is all LED so you don’t have to change light bulbs. The thermostat turns off the heater when the room reaches the temperature that you want. It comes with a remote control so you don’t have to get off the couch to adjust it! My cat loves to look at it and so do I. Just plug it into the wall and instant fire!
Installing a wood burning fireplace insert requires a permit from your local building authority. and in most locales requires a WETT QUALIFIED installer. Many insurance companies are now requiring WETT inspections to be done by a certified WETT inspector on new and existing installations. Check your local building authority and your insurance as to the requirements. Inserts must be installed into masonry fireplaces and chimneys that are in good condition and that have proper clearances to building framing, installing an EPA rated unit will give you good heat value and stop old drafting fireplaces from exhausting expensive heated air through stack effect even when their leaky dampers are closed.
